FANDANGO RELOADED is an archaeological journey in which dance acts as the catalyst for a shared ritual experience. Through dance, we reclaim and reimagine the Fandango d’Aiora, a traditional dance for couples that was banned under Franco’s regime and almost forgotten. This piece explores whether urban dance styles can fulfil the role that popular dances and songs once did in fostering community and togetherness. It combines traditional, contemporary, and urban dance styles in a performance that aims to recreate the past.
BACKGROUND
Inka Romaní is a dancer and creator. In 2019, she was awarded the Me, Myself & I Prize at the 33rd Madrid Choreographic Competition. She has been an artist-in-residence at KVS Brussels, La Licorera – Bienal de Danza de Cali (Colombia), and El Graner (Barcelona) and will soon be developing her next creation as an artist-in-residence at K3 – Zentrum für Choreographie (Hamburg).
She has presented her work in contexts such as Festival Dansa València, La Casa Encendida, IVAM, Centre del Carme de Cultura Contemporània, Centre Cívic Barceloneta, Conde Duque, Teatre Rialto, Festival 10 Sentidos, La Mutant and Tanz im August.
